Every state that levies professional tax sets its own slabs, thresholds and due dates. The constitutional cap is ₹2,500 per person per year — but the structure and frequency vary widely.

Your business figures and PAN are blurred here, this is a sample. Your actual registration shows every field clearly to you.
What matters before you pay: the correct category, the right state portal, a verifiable acknowledgement number.
Ask a CA FirstA state-level tax under Article 276 of the Constitution, capped at ₹2,500 a year per person. Registering under the wrong category, PTEC instead of PTRC or the reverse, is the most common mistake we see.
For professionals, proprietors, partners and directors who pay professional tax on their own income. One-time registration, then an annual payment.
For any business with even one salaried employee in a PT state. Requires deducting PT from salary every month and filing periodic returns.
Article 276 of the Constitution caps professional tax at ₹2,500 per person per year, but that's the only thing every PT-levying state has in common. Below that cap, each state sets its own income slabs, monthly deduction amounts, exemptions and due dates independently, under its own Act. Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh use a monthly slab structure with a higher deduction in one specific month to reach the annual cap cleanly; Tamil Nadu and Puducherry collect half-yearly through local municipal bodies instead of a single state department; some states offer exemptions (women below a certain income threshold, for example) that others don't. This is exactly why a business operating in three states can't apply one state's slab to all three — each registration is calculated and filed on that state's own schedule. [CONFIRM: exact current slabs, thresholds and due dates change periodically — always verify against the current state notification before filing.]

| Tamil Nadu / Puducherry | Half-yearly, via local municipal bodies |
| Gujarat | Monthly, capped around ₹2,400/year |
| Telangana / Andhra Pradesh | Monthly, capped around ₹2,400/year |

Yes. This is a standardised state-portal filing for our team, not a custom compliance audit. The fee reflects volume across states we already work in daily, not a shortcut on accuracy.
"We had employees in three states and three different due dates. SVT set up PTRC everywhere and gave us one filing calendar."
"Registered as a consultant, didn't realise I needed PTEC myself, not just PTRC for my two employees. Caught before it became a penalty."
"Missed our registration window by four months. SVT handled the late registration and got the penalty down to the minimum."
