Directors on a company's payroll are usually covered under the company's PTRC. Directors drawing sitting fees or commission outside payroll typically need their own, separate PTEC.

A sample layout of what a PTEC/PTRC acknowledgement contains, the details that matter blurred out here.
Your business figures and PAN are blurred here, this is a sample. Your actual registration shows every field clearly to you.
What matters before you pay: the correct category, the right state portal, a verifiable acknowledgement number.
Ask a CA FirstA state-level tax under Article 276 of the Constitution, capped at ₹2,500 a year per person. Registering under the wrong category, PTEC instead of PTRC or the reverse, is the most common mistake we see.
For professionals, proprietors, partners and directors who pay professional tax on their own income. One-time registration, then an annual payment.
For any business with even one salaried employee in a PT state. Requires deducting PT from salary every month and filing periodic returns.
A director's professional tax treatment depends entirely on how they're paid, not their title. An executive director drawing a fixed monthly salary through the company's payroll is generally covered under the company's own PTRC registration, exactly like any other salaried employee. A non-executive or independent director drawing sitting fees, commission, or professional fees instead of a payroll salary sits outside that PTRC coverage entirely, and typically needs their own individual PTEC registration. Companies with a mixed board — some executive directors on payroll, some independent directors on fees — often register PTRC correctly for the payroll side and simply never address the fee-based directors at all. A director sitting on multiple company boards, drawing fees from each, carries one PTEC personally, not one per company they sit on.
| Director's Compensation | Professional Tax Treatment |
|---|---|
| Fixed salary through payroll | Covered under the company's PTRC, like any employee |
| Sitting fees / commission (non-executive) | Individual PTEC, registered by the director personally |
| Director on multiple boards, fee-based on each | One personal PTEC, not one per company |
| Founder-director drawing no formal salary yet | Often still liable — check against actual income drawn |

Yes. This is a standardised state-portal filing for our team, not a custom compliance audit. The fee reflects volume across states we already work in daily, not a shortcut on accuracy.
"We had employees in three states and three different due dates. SVT set up PTRC everywhere and gave us one filing calendar."
"Registered as a consultant, didn't realise I needed PTEC myself, not just PTRC for my two employees. Caught before it became a penalty."
"Missed our registration window by four months. SVT handled the late registration and got the penalty down to the minimum."
