Monthly MIS Report Format (Free Download)

A monthly MIS report is a short management pack of revenue, margin, expenses, profit, cash position, receivables and payables, compared with the budget and the previous month. This free format lists the standard lines in the order a lender or investor expects, and can be downloaded as a CSV file for Excel or Google Sheets without any sign-up.

How to fill the format

Copy the closing figures from your books after the month is reconciled, not before. Enter last month's figures from the previous report and the budget from your annual plan. Variance is this month minus budget, and a short comment on any line that moves more than ten percent helps the reader.

Keep the same lines every month. Comparison only works if the structure is stable, so resist the urge to add new heads each month. If a new cost matters, add a line and keep it permanently.

What to read first

Read gross margin, then operating expenses as a percentage of revenue, then closing cash, then debtors over 90 days. Margin shows pricing and cost control, expenses show overhead discipline, cash shows survival and old debtors show collection risk.

If margin falls while revenue rises, the business is growing but earning less on each sale. If profit is positive but cash is falling, receivables or stock are absorbing the money. The format makes these patterns visible quickly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this MIS format free to use?

Yes. The format is free, ungated and can be copied, edited and used for your own business or your clients. A CA-prepared MIS with commentary, ageing and a dashboard is available as a paid monthly service, but you do not need it to use this template.

Which software does the CSV open in?

The CSV opens in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice and Apple Numbers. Open the file, then use Save As to keep it in your preferred format. Add formulas for the gross profit, EBITDA and variance lines if you want the sheet to calculate them for you.

How often should I prepare an MIS?

Monthly is the standard, by the 10th of the next month. Weekly cash reports can supplement it for businesses with tight cash. A quarterly version in your bank's format is usually needed for working-capital limits, and it can be built from the same monthly data.

Who prepares and signs the work?

SVT & Associates is an ICAI-registered Chartered Accountancy firm. Every account is supervised and reviewed by CA Rinky Vishwakarma, Fellow Chartered Accountant, ICAI Membership No. 177507. Where a certificate or attest report is issued, it is signed by a practising CA and carries a UDIN.

How quickly can you start?

After a short consultation and receipt of your documents, onboarding usually takes three to five working days, and the first monthly books are delivered within seven days of receiving complete data. If a filing deadline is close, we handle that first and then complete the wider setup.

Is my financial data confidential?

Yes. As a Chartered Accountancy firm we are bound by the ICAI Code of Ethics on professional confidentiality. Your records are accessed only by staff working on your account, are shared through controlled folders or your own software, and are never given to third parties without your written consent or a legal requirement.

Which accounting software do you work in?

We work in your existing software, whether Tally Prime, Tally ERP 9, Zoho Books, QuickBooks or Busy, so you do not need to switch. Your licence and data remain yours at all times, and a full export of your books is available whenever you ask for it.

Are your fees fixed, and are there hidden charges?

Fees are fixed and confirmed in writing after we review one sample month of your data. Our fee and GST are shown on separate lines, and accounting has no government fee. Work outside the agreed scope, such as a backlog clean-up, is priced separately and agreed with you before it begins.

Do you serve clients outside Mumbai?

Yes. Most of our work is delivered online across India, using shared folders, your accounting software, video calls and WhatsApp. Our office is in Goregaon West, Mumbai, where local clients can meet the CA in person, but no visit is needed to start or continue the service.

Can I stop the service if I am not satisfied?

Monthly plans are not locked in, and you can end the service by giving us notice. You will receive your books, reconciliations and working papers in an exportable form. The Refund Policy linked in the footer explains how any advance payment is treated.
