Quick answer
A stock certificate for a bank CC or OD account is a CA-signed statement of stock, unpaid creditors and eligible debtors on a date, in the bank's own format. The bank uses it to set drawing power. Under RBI norms, drawing power based on a stock statement older than three months is treated as irregular.

How your bank uses the stock statement
A cash credit or overdraft limit is secured by hypothecation of stock and book debts. Each month or quarter (the sanction letter says which) you submit a stock statement, and the bank works out drawing power: the part of the limit you can actually use. The usual method is paid stock (stock minus unpaid creditors for goods) less the stock margin, plus eligible debtors less the debtor margin. Margins of around 25% on stock and 40% on debtors are common, but only your sanction letter decides.
Timing matters. RBI's prudential norms treat drawings as irregular if drawing power is based on a stock statement more than three months old, and a working capital account can become a non-performing asset if irregular drawings continue for 90 days. Banks also levy penal charges when statements are late or when the outstanding exceeds drawing power. A certified statement, submitted on time and in the bank's own format, keeps the account regular and the full limit usable.
When You Need This
The branch returned your statement
Closing stock didn't match purchases and sales. We reconcile the figures first, then certify in the bank's format.
Outstanding above drawing power
We check whether stock was understated or debtors wrongly excluded before you regularise the account.
Monthly statements due all year
A retainer covers every statement, so none goes out of date.
Check Your Drawing Power in 30 Seconds
Enter figures in ₹ lakh. Margins default to 25% on stock and 40% on debtors; replace them with the margins in your sanction letter.
Your drawing power (₹ lakh)
Formula: (stock − unpaid creditors) × (1 − stock margin) + eligible debtors × (1 − debtor margin). An estimate only; your bank's sanction terms decide the final drawing power.
