Quick answer

Preparing for a bank stock audit means reconciling stock, debtors and creditors with the books and the stock statements already submitted, before the bank's appointed auditor arrives. SVT & Associates does not act as your bank's stock auditor; it helps you get records, valuation and ageing ready so drawing power is not cut.

What the bank's stock auditor will check

A stock audit is ordered and paid for by the bank, usually through an auditor from its own panel, and is common where fund-based limits are large. Many banks start stock audits at limits of around ₹1 crore, but each bank's policy differs. The auditor counts stock physically, compares it with the latest stock statement and the books, reviews valuation and debtor ageing, and recalculates drawing power. Any gap is reported to the bank, and a lower drawing power can take effect at once.

Most adverse findings are avoidable: stock valued at selling price instead of cost, unpaid creditors not deducted, debtors older than the cut-off included, obsolete or damaged stock counted in full, stock at job workers or other godowns not declared, and insurance lower than stock. We go through these points on your records beforehand, fix what can be fixed, and certify a fresh stock statement so the auditor starts from reconciled numbers.

questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Stock auditors are chosen by the bank, usually from its empanelled list, to keep the audit independent of the borrower. We don't approach banks to be appointed for your account. Our role is to help you prepare, reconcile and certify your own statement before the audit.
Physical stock against the stock statement and books, the valuation method, slow-moving and obsolete items, paid stock after creditors, debtor ageing and related-party debtors, insurance cover, and whether stock is at the declared locations. The report ends with a recalculated drawing power.
The bank will usually reduce drawing power to the audited figure and may ask you to regularise any excess drawing. It may also ask for an explanation. Reconciling beforehand, and correcting an overstated statement yourself, is far better than having the auditor find the gap.
A practising Chartered Accountant. SVT & Associates is a firm of Chartered Accountants in Goregaon West, Mumbai, and certificates are reviewed and signed by CA Rinky Vishwakarma, FCA, ICAI membership number 177507. Each certificate is on firm letterhead with the CA's signature, membership number, stamp and a UDIN.
Yes. ICAI has made a Unique Document Identification Number mandatory on all certificates issued by Chartered Accountants since 1 February 2019. Your bank, the GST officer or an insurer can check the UDIN at udin.icai.org, which shows the signing CA's name and membership number and confirms the document is genuine.
The standard fee is ₹1,999 plus GST for one location and one statement date, with books up to date. Urgent same-day certification is ₹2,999 plus GST, and monthly bank statements on a yearly retainer are ₹1,499 plus GST per statement. There is no government fee. Physical verification and multi-location cases are quoted in writing before work starts.
Usually one working day after we receive complete documents, if your stock register or Tally data is up to date. Urgent cases can be signed the same day. Manual records, several godowns or a physical count take longer, and we tell you the timeline before you pay.
No. You ask for a stock certificate yourself, and it confirms your stock position on a date. A stock audit is appointed and paid for by the bank, usually from its own panel, and includes a physical count and review. We can help you prepare for a stock audit, but the bank chooses the auditor.
At the lower of cost and net realisable value, as Accounting Standard AS 2 and Ind AS 2 require. Valuing stock at selling price is one of the most common reasons a bank's stock auditor cuts drawing power. The valuation basis is stated on every certificate we issue.
A stock register or Tally stock summary, purchase and sales registers for the period, a debtors ageing list, a list of unpaid creditors for goods, the bank's stock statement format and sanction letter, and the stock insurance policy. For GST ITC-01, purchase invoices with supplier GSTINs are also needed.
