Quick answer
A stock certificate in Kolkata is a Chartered Accountant's signed statement of a business's stock and receivables on a stated date. Kolkata jute, tea, steel and wholesale trading businesses use it for bank CC/OD drawing power, loan renewals and GST ITC-01 claims above ₹2 lakh, with a UDIN banks can verify.

Stock certificates for Burrabazar traders, jute mills and Howrah steel units
Kolkata's wholesale trade centres on Burrabazar, one of India's largest wholesale markets, where traders deal in textiles, dry fruits, hardware and household goods from small, crowded godowns. Stock there often changes hands on credit between traders, so unpaid creditors can be almost as large as the stock itself. We deduct creditors carefully to arrive at paid stock, the figure banks actually lend against, and check that goods sold but not yet delivered are not still counted.
West Bengal is India's largest jute-producing state, and the jute mills along the Hooghly buy raw jute in the harvest season and hold it for months. Tea traders deal in lots bought at auction and stored until sale. Howrah's engineering and steel units hold stock by weight. For each of these, we use the measure the trade uses (bales, lots or tonnes) and value at the lower of cost and market, since jute and steel prices can swing sharply within a season.
