When You Need Accounting Records for GST Notice Replies

In Detail

Accounting Records for GST Notice Replies: how it works and what to expect

Why most notices are reconciliation problems

Many routine GST notices arise from differences the system detects automatically: outward tax in GSTR-1 not equal to GSTR-3B, credit claimed higher than GSTR-2B, or e-way bill value that does not match the return. These are usually timing or classification differences, not evasion.

A good reply sets out the numbers, explains each difference with a document and, where an error is real, pays the tax with interest. Such replies are usually accepted, whereas a reply that ignores the numbers invites further proceedings.

What this service covers and what it does not

This service covers routine notices, reconciliation and the reply at the officer level. It does not cover appeals, hearings before an appellate authority or high-value investigations.

If your case escalates, we review the order and tell you which stage follows and whether a GST lawyer or an advocate should appear. The reconciliation and records prepared here form the base for that stage, so the work is not repeated.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have to reply to a GST notice?

The reply date is printed on the notice, typically within seven to thirty days. Missing it can lead to an ex-parte order. Send us the notice the day you receive it, so we can review it and, if needed, request more time before the date.

Is this a legal service or an accounting service?

It is an accounting and compliance service by a CA firm. We reconcile, draft and file replies for routine notices. Matters going to appeal, or needing a hearing by an advocate, are outside this fee and are referred to appropriate counsel.

What if the department is right and I owe tax?

We compute the tax and interest, explain how the error happened and help you pay through the portal, so the matter closes quickly. Paying a small genuine difference with interest generally costs far less than contesting it for months. Early payment also stops interest running further.

Who prepares and signs the work?

SVT & Associates is an ICAI-registered Chartered Accountancy firm. Every account is supervised and reviewed by CA Rinky Vishwakarma, Fellow Chartered Accountant, ICAI Membership No. 177507. Where a certificate or attest report is issued, it is signed by a practising CA and carries a UDIN.

How quickly can you start?

After a short consultation and receipt of your documents, onboarding usually takes three to five working days, and the first monthly books are delivered within seven days of receiving complete data. If a filing deadline is close, we handle that first and then complete the wider setup.

Is my financial data confidential?

Yes. As a Chartered Accountancy firm we are bound by the ICAI Code of Ethics on professional confidentiality. Your records are accessed only by staff working on your account, are shared through controlled folders or your own software, and are never given to third parties without your written consent or a legal requirement.

Which accounting software do you work in?

We work in your existing software, whether Tally Prime, Tally ERP 9, Zoho Books, QuickBooks or Busy, so you do not need to switch. Your licence and data remain yours at all times, and a full export of your books is available whenever you ask for it.

Are your fees fixed, and are there hidden charges?

Fees are fixed and confirmed in writing after we review one sample month of your data. Our fee and GST are shown on separate lines, and accounting has no government fee. Work outside the agreed scope, such as a backlog clean-up, is priced separately and agreed with you before it begins.

Do you serve clients outside Mumbai?

Yes. Most of our work is delivered online across India, using shared folders, your accounting software, video calls and WhatsApp. Our office is in Goregaon West, Mumbai, where local clients can meet the CA in person, but no visit is needed to start or continue the service.

Can I stop the service if I am not satisfied?

Monthly plans are not locked in, and you can end the service by giving us notice. You will receive your books, reconciliations and working papers in an exportable form. The Refund Policy linked in the footer explains how any advance payment is treated.
